Melt Flow Index’S (Mfi Tester) Impact On Product Quality Verification

by Scarlett Watson

The MFI tester is one of the most obvious markers of a plastic’s various properties. To assure a higher level of product quality, the producers employ this plastics property to assess numerous other plastics features.

One of the most popular materials is plastic, which is utilized in various residential and industrial applications. The quality of the goods delivered to customers depends significantly on how widely plastic is used. To provide the highest quality assurance to the clients, plastic product producers must ensure that they test the quality of their products using tools like the melt flow index testers they manufacture.

The specimen’s melt flow rate and material’s molecular weight are inversely related. The material with a greater MFI will be simpler to produce, but because of the reduced molecular weight of the material, it may have lesser impact resistance and other qualities. The material’s melt flow index test aids plastic resin producers in making the necessary adjustments to the production process to ensure the highest possible material quality.

What is a Vibration tester for packaging?

Vibration tester for packaging is a device that examines the effects of vibration on all products around us.

Any product can be damaged by fatigue due to long-term vibration, so it is often used from the viewpoint of quality assurance. For example, many products need to be checked for metal material parts.

If a product has a problem after it is sold, it will lead to a big problem such as a recall, and depending on the product, it may even be life-threatening.

Application of vibration tester

Vibration tester for packaging performs tests by applying vibrations to a vibration table on which a test object is placed using a vibration exciter that is a part of the device.

Vibration can be added vertically and horizontally, and various vibration stresses can be investigated.

It is used for the following purposes:

  • Check that manufactured products such as automobiles and electronic parts can withstand vibration and demonstrate their performance.
  • Confirmation of the impact on products and packages due to vibrations that products such as home appliances, OA equipment, and food products are subjected to during transportation.

It is also used in many other situations, such as inspection of production lines, reviewing earthquake countermeasures, and calibrating vibration and seismometers.

Principle of vibration tester

Vibration tester for packaging consists of a vibration controller, a power amplifier, and a vibration generator. The vibration controller feeds the signal sent from the vibration generator to grasp the situation and control the test.

Vibration testers are classified into mechanical, hydraulic, and electrodynamic types according to their drive system.

Mechanical vibration tester

A method that uses a motor as the driving force. In comparison to hydraulic and electrodynamic versions, they are pretty inexpensive.

Hydraulic vibration tester

Hydraulic system for driving force. It is mainly used for transportation tests and is effective in trials where low vibration frequency, long stroke, and power are the criteria.

Electrodynamics vibration tester

A method that uses the Lorentz force that occurs when a current is passed through a conductor in a magnetic field. Bypassing an alternating current through the drive coil installed in the magnetic field of the excitation coil, it reciprocates according to the current. A feature of this method is that it has a wide range of excitation frequencies and can handle exceptionally high frequencies.

Trends toward larger and smaller vibration testers

Larger vibration tester

As a recent trend, the Vibration tester for packaging is becoming more prominent. Conventionally, electrical products, electronic parts, and automobile parts were mainly tested, but the needs for packaged freight, parts mounted on railway vehicles, and the aviation and space industries have increased. As a result, the space on which the sample can be placed has become more extensive, and a 1m square sample stage has also appeared. In addition, the vibration frequency required by the aerospace industry is higher than that of consumer and vehicle-mounted products, so testing machines that meet these specifications are also being developed.

Miniaturization of vibration tester

There is also an increasing need for miniaturization of the Vibration tester for packaging. As one of these needs, a desktop vibration tester was developed. This tester effectively detects poor soldering on printed circuit boards, poor contact of connectors, and poor tightening of screws and nuts. As a result, it is utilized for new product qualification testing and quality control during the production process. In addition, handy-type vibration testers are appearing as another demand. This testing machine checks electronic devices’ vibration resistance and confirms the vibration characteristics of specific locations.

Conclusion:  MFI tester plays a significant role in ensuring the quality of plastic products and materials. The MFI or MFR has employed primary criteria for material acceptability in industries for the production process.
